Nick Pope looks like hes dislocated his shoulder Newcastle coach Eddie Howe
Eddie Howe believes goalkeeper Nick Pope “dislocated his shoulder” during Newcastle United’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United.
Following an effort from Sergio Reguilon in the second half, Pope went down and signalled the need for treatment after diving to try and save the ball.
The 31-year-old was eventually replaced in the 86th minute by Martin Dubravka, who spent time on loan at Manchester United last season.

Pope is set to see a specialist on Monday to determine the extent of any possible injury.
“That’s the disappointment on the night,” Howe said. “Nick looks like he’s dislocated his shoulder. Such a strange thing, really, because he’d have made that dive thousands of times.
“It looks like maybe the arm has just kept on going, maybe on the moist floor, and his shoulder has come out of his joint. We’re going to have to seek specialist opinion and then see what happens, but it doesn’t look good.
“Too early to say (a timeframe). He was in pain when the shoulder was out of his joint. It’s gone back in now and he feels better but we’ll seek a specialist opinion. It doesn’t sound good.”
Should Pope miss time, he will join an already lengthy injury list at Newcastle which includes defender Sven Botman, striker Callum Wilson and midfield pair Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff. Howe has named two senior goalkeepers on the bench for their last few matches, with third-choice Loris Karius joining Dubravka among the substitutes.
Howe added when speaking to TnT Sport: “It’s a massive blow for us if Nick’s going to be out for a lengthy period of time.
“It looks really innocuous, they look the most serious ones at times. I think he’s dislocated his shoulder just diving, the arm kept going and looks like we could lose him.”
Anthony Gordon opened the scoring for Newcastle in the 55th minute after calmly slotting the ball past goalkeeper Andre Onana following a low cross by Kieran Trippier. The result sees Newcastle leapfrog Manchester United and move up to fifth in the table.
Saturday’s match was the first of eight in December for Howe’s side. They are back in action on Thursday with a trip to Everton, before consecutive home games against Tottenham Hotspur next Sunday and AC Milan the following Wednesday.
